From April to September, Scotland's weather can really keep you on your toes! Temperatures can swing anywhere from the low 40s to the low 80s Fahrenheit, but if you know Scotland, you know predicting the weather is like trying to catch a rainbow—good luck with that! One minute it's sunny, the next it's pouring, and don't be surprised if you get a little taste of three different seasons in a single day. We even have palm trees growing off the West Coast, believe it or not! It's a bit like the Pacific Northwest in the States, but with a dash more unpredictability. Expect the unexpected, and always pack layers!

Because the temperatures in Scotland can be all over the place (as mentioned above!), it's best to pack layers instead of heavy clothing. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, even for a quick stroll or short hike. If you're planning a longer hike, consider bringing waterproof boots just in case. A light rain jacket is always a good idea—Scotland's famous for its surprise showers! If you're traveling before or after your tour and need a place to store your bags, we've got you covered. We offer complimentary bag storage at our Edinburgh office, so you can explore worry-free. Typically, our vehicles can accommodate one medium-sized suitcase and one carry-on per person, but please let us know how much luggage you're planning to bring so we can ensure there's plenty of space!

Some hotels may offer laundry services if you're staying for several days, which can be a great help during longer trips. However, if you prefer to pack light, you might want to bring a little detergent for hand-washing small items of clothing—it's a simple way to keep things fresh without needing to rely on hotel services.

Almost everywhere in Scotland accepts Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards, so you'll have no trouble paying for things. However, smaller establishments often don't accept American Express due to the higher fees, so it's best to have an alternative. Be sure to bring at least one 'tap to pay' card, as some places only accept contactless payments. There are plenty of ATMs around where you can easily withdraw cash, but don't forget to notify your bank that you're traveling to avoid any issues. We use Pounds Sterling here in Scotland (both Scottish and English notes are accepted), but keep in mind that no other currency is accepted in shops or hotels.

Bed sizes in the UK are a bit smaller than those in the US. A UK twin bed is equivalent to a US single, and a UK King is similar to a US Queen. A UK Super King is about the same size as a US King bed, but these are rare to find in hotels in the Scottish Highlands. Rest assured, you'll always be booked into a room with private ensuite facilities, and your stay includes breakfast to start your day off right. Many of the charming hotels and B&Bs in the Highlands are set in historic buildings, which often means no elevators. So, keep that in mind when packing and try to travel light if you can!

Most of the smaller hotels do not offer porterage. If you leave your bags at check in, they will deliver but you may have to wait a while for your luggage. Your guide will always help but it's not what they are there for.

Gratuities are never expected but gratefully received. Please only tip if you are delighted with the service. Restaurants & Cafés: 10% (Some establishments will automatically place a service charge of 10%). Please do not pay twice. Taxis: Round it up to the nearest £. Pubs/Bars: If table service, 10%. If you go to the bar, no gratuities are expected.

You should bring a UK specific or international adaptor. In the UK we use 240v. The plug points also have safety on/off switches. Be sure that the switch is in down position for power. Many hotels will supply hairdryers and irons. In some of the older hotels, the power switch for the shower may be on the outside of the bathroom.

On arrival day, you make your own way to the Edinburgh hotel. There are taxis, buses and trams from the airport to Edinburgh City centre. Trams are around £10 per person, buses around £6, and a taxi would take 4 people and luggage for around £30. Journey time 20-30 mins depending on traffic. You can order a personalised 'Meet and Greet' at the airport for a private car to your Edinburgh Hotel for £110 (up to 4 people). Ask for a quote for more than 4 people.

Some of you may have chosen to stay at an Edinburgh Airport hotel due to an early departure flight time. On your last day, you will make your own way to Edinburgh Airport. There are several options available from Edinburgh city centre (Waverley Bridge): • Tram: Around £10 per person • Bus: Around £6 per person • Taxi: Around £30 for up to 4 people with luggage Journey time is approximately 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. If you prefer, we can arrange a personalised airport transfer directly from your Edinburgh hotel for £110 (up to 4 people). Please ask us for a quote if your group is larger than 4 people.

Although we have an excellent cancellation policy, it is important to cover yourself with a trip insurance policy. We will always supply you or your insurance company any documents proving any financial loss.
